University of Yaounde I, Cameroon

The University of Yaounde is one of five State Universities available to Cameroon. It has five faculties including FMSB which was created in 1969. The Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (FMSB) has a cycle of general medicine, a cycle of health and medicine and biomedical sciences, a course of a cycle of Dentistry Pharmacy and a cycle specialization. The Faculty of Medicine has several departments: a Department of Morphological Sciences, department of physiological sciences, department of public health, microbiology, and surgical specialties, internal medicine, laboratory medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics. The FMSB offers doctoral degrees for medical and clinical scientists in several areas (surgery, paediatrics, laboratory medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology) and masters in Public Health. Furthermore, Phd cycle is under study. Medical students wishing to do a Masters or Ph.D. in basic sciences (eg biochemistry) may inscribe in Faculty of the University of Yaounde I.

The training program in general medicine (seven years) obeys the BMD system to obtain the license after three years, a Master after two and a doctorate in medicine after two years.

Dr. Vincent Djientcheu. He is a professor and surgeon, with years of experience in medical teaching and active part of the medical programme at the University of Yaounde. He has been very active in participating in medical societies, being the secretary of the PanAfrican Association of Neurological Sciences. He has also participated in the RAFT Network of Telemedicine with the University of Geneve and other African partners. In this network he developed various activities related to teaching and telemedicine. He has published actively in the field of medicine, particularly neurosurgery.
