AFRICA BUILD at the closing conference for EU-Egypt Cooperation in Science and Innovation 18-19 April 2013

On Thursday 18 June 2013, EU and Egypt celebrated the "EU-Egypt Year of Science and Innovation" in Cairo. The year of Science started in 2007 by the Egyptian Ministry of Scientific Research to strengthen Egypt's science and technology system. Accordingly, three of EU member states have successfully implemented bilateral "Year of Science" with Egypt namely Germany (2007), Italy (2009) and France (2010).

The event included two main activities as follows:

  • The closing conference in which two panel discussions were conducted to discuss the current status of EU-Egypt cooperation in Science and Innovation as well as future perspective. The panellists included the EU Ambassador to Egypt, Science Counsellor for Italian, French and German embassies in Egypt, directors of the EU-funding schemes programmes in Egypt and representatives of EC-DG Research and Innovation.
  • Poster session: presenting success stories for EU-Egypt joint cooperation in Science and Innovation including FP7, Tempus and joint funds. AFRICA BUILD was presented under the FP7-Health theme.
